Abscessed ToothFirst things first: an abscessed tooth is something that should be taken very seriously. At the first sign of it, make sure that you consult your dentist right away because it can cause some very serious complications, even including losing your life! In addition to the treatment course a dentists provides, there are also home remedies for it.

So what is an abscessed tooth? Simply put, it’s an infection of the tooth’s root or sometimes the area where the tooth and gums meet. Dentists say that the most common causes of an abscessed tooth are severe dental carries and gum disease. Naturally, it’s something that can cause a great deal of pain and sensitivity, as well as bad breath, swollen lymph nodes in the jaw area, fever and a general feeling of illness.

Just like what’s mentioned earlier, it’s imperative for a dentist to see an abscessed tooth. Otherwise, the infection may spread to the bones and elsewhere on the body if it’s left uncontrolled with the help of an expert. As you can see, even an apparently-harmless simple toothache can actually cost you your life!

Together with the treatment course your dentist will prescribe, there are also a few home remedies for an abscessed tooth that you may count on. Here are a few of the best:

  • Garlic. Peel a clove of garlic and bite it using the affected tooth. Let it stay there for a couple of minutes. Similarly, you may apply the oil inside a garlic oil supplement capsule on your abscessed tooth.
  • Clove. This very common culinary herb is also an excellent home remedy for an abscessed tooth. All you have to do is chew a whole clove. Allow its juice to remain in your mouth for a few minutes.
  • Apple cider vinegar. Add 1 tablespoon of unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a glass of lukewarm water. Rinse your mouth with it. Do this up to 3 times a day. In the morning, you may also drink the said mixture.
  • Salt. Other than apple cider vinegar, you can also come up with a mouth rinse using salt. Simply dissolve 1 teaspoon of salt in a glass of lukewarm water, and then rinse with it. Do it up to thrice per day.
  • Baking Soda. Similarly, you may also rinse your mouth with a mixture of 1 teaspoon of baking soda and a glass of lukewarm water. Swish it in your mouth for a few minutes and spit out.
  • Turmeric. Add a few drops of water to half a teaspoon of turmeric. Apply this paste directly on the abscessed tooth, preferably after brushing. Rinse off with water after about 30 minutes.

Peppermint essential oil. If you are into essential oils, check if you have peppermint in your collection. All you have to do is apply a drop or two of it on the abscessed tooth to attain relief from the symptoms.
