How to Detect Nutritional Deficiencies

This is not unlikely especially with our current diet that is often filled with foods that are high in salt, carbs, and fats. The problem with our diet is that we don’t normally get the nutrients that we need every day. We may not think much of it today but when we end up feeling sick and have been checked by a doctor, only then will we realize that we are missing a lot of important nutrients.
 
So how do you notice if you are suffering from any nutritional deficiencies then? Well, there are ways in which you can detect possibile nutritional deficiencies by taking a closer look at your body. For sure, once you learn to read the signs, you will be able to correct your mistakes easily. Here are a few signs to watch out for.




Eyes


The eyes may be the windows to your souls but did you know that they can also tell something about your health? If you look at your eyes and see some bags or dark circles under your eyes, you are most likely suffering from food tolerances, allergies, and dehydration. Your body is suffering from lack of vitamin C when you see ruptured blood vessels in your eyes. Iron deficiency can be detected if your lower eyelids are pale.

Nails

Your nails can speak volumes too when it comes to your health. When you see white spots n your nails, this is often a sign of mineral deficiency but it can also mean that you are low in zinc. If there are ridges on your nails then it is a sure sign that you are missing out on zinc in your diet. You are in need of more magnesium in your diet if your nails are brittle or are soft.
 
Muscles and joints

Muscle cramping is a sure sign that you are missing on some important vitamins and minerals like Magnesium, vitamins B1, B2, and B6. If you notice some swelling in your muscles and joints then it might be because of missing potassium, B1, and B6. Manganese is the likely culprit of clicking joints, while lack of vitamins B12 and B5 can lead to tingling or numbness in your muscles and joints. If you notice that your muscles and joints are twitching unexpectedly, then you might need more vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, B9, vitamin D, calcium, and magnesium.



Legs

Have you ever noticed that you have brisk knee reflexes lately? It might be because you are lacking in magnesium which is the same culprit when you have tender calf muscles. You will need to increase your intake of foods that are rich in magnesium or have magnesium supplements if possible until these signs disappear or are alleviated.

Skin

The skin is the largest organ in the body and it is one of the easiest parts of the body to notice any nutritional deficiencies. For example, if you notice that there are some bumps on the back of your arms then it is likely that you are missing out on vitamin A. For those who bruise easily, it is possible that you are missing out on vitamin C. The same vitamin is missing in your diet if you experience nosebleeds from time to time. On the other hand, if you have been diagnosed with dermatitis, it is because you are missing some biotin, vitamins B2 and B3 in your system. 




As you can see, there are plenty of signs for you to watch out for that can point you in the right direction when it comes to your vitamin intake. When you spot any of these signs, you might want to switch up your diet to include the necessary nutrients.
