Staying Fit when You’re in a Forced Exercise Break

Staying FitIt can be quite devastating to be told that you need to take a break from your exercise regimen because your body is no longer functioning at 100%. You’ll feel that life is unfair because you will lose everything you have gained after working hard on the gym but this is not always so.

Taking a break from your workout sessions doesn’t really mean that you’ll slide back to your previous weight, not unless you pay attention to a few things such as the ones below.

  • Do something light. If you are itching to work out, know that there is a reason why your doctor told you to take a break. You can, however, do some light activities such as cardio exercises like walking or swimming depending on the recommendations of your doctor. Just make sure that you don’t push yourself too much because you might strain yourself.
  • Stick with your healthy habits. Just because you are not allowed to do any strenuous stuff, it doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to keep your weight down or maintain your health. As a matter of fact, sticking with the healthy habits that you are practicing such as sleeping on time, drinking enough water, and choosing clean foods for your daily meal can help you keep the fat off as much as possible. With regards to the time that you are spending on exercise, you can use this to look for healthy recipes to try, meditate, or even take naps to help your body to heal.
  • Start with five minutes. Easing your body back to its former fitness level is going to take some time especially when you’ve been resting for months. Your stamina, strength, and endurane level may not be the same as before. If you want to train your body, start with doing some light exercises for five minutes only. Increase the amount of time gradually to help your body adjust the workout once more. Just make sure that you got the green light from your doctor before you start doing light exercises.
  • Maintain an active mind. Another way for you to stay fit is to keep your mind sharp and ready for your next fitness goal. You can hone your mind by reading books or articles about the fitness program you want to try next, write down your future fitness goals in your journal, and even discover new techniques on how to get the most out of your exercises the next time you do them.
  • Don’t be too hard on yourself. There will be times when you feel that you are missing out on a lot of things when it comes to your fitness because of the forced break but don’t let this get to you too much. Keep in mind that your body can reach its breaking point which is why you need to listen to the aches and pains that you are feeling. Allowing your body to take a break from the strenuous activities that you are doing allows it time to heal.
